Verizon is blocking mobile hotspot tethering for iPhone jailbreakers who use apps like MyWi to circumvent the carrier’s data plans.
It was first noticed by an employee at RWW, who was directed to this explanation page by Verizon. The site implies that jailbroken tetherers need to sign up for one of Verizon’s mobile hotspot plans.
Verizon isn’t alone in this. ATT started doing the same thing this week, threatening to downgrade unlimited plans if users didn’t stop the free tethering or sign up for a new tethering plan for an extra $20 per month.
