Google loves shipping containers!

So much so that it’s housing its presence at the 2012 Democratic National Convention in a structure built around the standardized metal boxes.

The tech giant has put entire data centers in shipping containers. But its marketing operation in Charlotte, North Carolina, aimed at raising the company’s profile among the media and politicians attending the event, aims for a different kind of networking.

Richard Adams of The Guardian snapped some photos of what The Next Web called a “pop-up Googleplex”—a nod to Google’s name for its headquarters in Mountain View.

The Google operation at the DNC includes broadcasting facilities for YouTube, which is livestreaming the convention; places to relax away from the convention floor and recharge your (Android) smartphone; a self-driving car; and kiosks touting the ways Google helps small businesses. (Hey, might as well get some lobbying in!)
