Viruses, trojans, and other aggravating malware that once attacked only PCs are now making their way to Macs, CNN Money is reporting.

Intel subsidiary McAfee has released its quarterly “Threats Report” and come out with bad news not only for Apple but also for Google and, well, the entire computer industry.

The report found 8 million new kinds of malware in the second quarter, up by 23 percent from the first quarter, CNN reported.

“This report highlights the need for protection on all devices that may be used to access the Internet,” said Vincent Weafer, head of McAfee Labs.

Hackers are targeting both Macs and mobile phones more frequently, the report found. And Google’s Android phone is the target of basically all new malware.

For its part, McAfee noted in this press release that cybercriminals are more frequently using so-called ransomware. That popular tool threatens personal photos and can hold data “hostage, instantly damaging machines,” according to McAfee.
