I think we can all safely say, it was only a matter of time. Max Levchin, founder of Slide, a company which Google acquired just over a year ago, will be leaving the company.
According to a report on All Things D sources, Levchin will depart Google and Slide immediately and Slide’s projects will be “sunsetted over the next few months.” One such project includes Photovine which launched to positive reviews only last week.
Slide launched officially in 2005 as a way to make nifty social plugins and games for social networks like MySpace. The company was acquired by Google on August 4, 2010 for $182 million. Slide has remained a separate running company, a start up within a giant if you will, but its products were very much supported by Google and the media presented them as such.
Levchin, an entrepreneur through and through, made his name after co-founding Paypal. The company went public in February 2002, and was subsequently acquired by eBay.
