Now that Michael Arrington has started a venture capital fund, AOL is conducting an external and internal search to replace him.

Arrington will continue to write for AOL’s technology blog, TechCrunch, but he will “will no longer have editorial control or decision making,” according to AOL Huffington Post spokesman Mario Ruiz.

“He will focus on the funds and continue to write,” says Ruiz.

We pressed Ruiz to find out if Arrington will continue to share his sources with other TechCrunch writers. Many of Arrington’s sources are now his LP clients, so that would pose something of a conflict of interest. Ruiz declined to get into that level of detail.

Eric Schoenfeld will takeover Arrington’s management duties in the interim.

We thought that Arrington hasn’t really been the managing editor TechCrunch for a long time now – that such a role belonged to Schoenfeld already.

The whole thing is sort of dispiriting, honestly.

Shouldn’t Arrington just start a personal blog like every other VC? Whatever. They are AOL’s readers to disappoint.
