A Japanese movie just set the record for most tweets per second

According to Twitter, the TV screening of the highly popular Anime, “Castle in the Sky,” set a record for the most Tweets per second (TPS). Previously, Beyonce was responsible for the most TPS, followed by live sporting events and Steve Job’s death.

 

This isn’t the first time Japan has broken the TPS record. It happened during the Japan vs Denmark World Cup in 2010, and again in celebration of New Year’s Eve 2011. An estimated 10 million Japanese people actively use Twitter, which explains why Japanese is Twitter’s #2 most popular language.

As for “Castle in the Sky,” Miyazaki is a master of animation, and I highly recommend his work to anyone with a love for a heartwarming story. Check out the trailer for the animation below:
