The tech industry, like much of the rest of America, is litigation-happy.

For the most part, the companies fight, nitpick, run up huge legal fees, then settle with little-to-no-impact on customers or investors.

But not always.There are cases where these legal battles hurt the industry, consumers, or are just plain ugly for other reasons.

This list of lawsuits belong to the latter category. Some are over stomach-turning human rights violations, some could alter copyright law forever, some could leave customers of expensive gear without options, and some have protected the vendor at the consumer’s expense.
