We’ve learned that Branch raised a round from SV Angel and a bunch of other investors.
A source close to the company says it’s close to $2 million.
Other investors in the round include Lerer Ventures, Rick Webb, Lucas Nelson, Ryan Freitas, and David Tisch.
Josh Miller left Princeton to start a group blogging site called Roundtable, which later became Branch.
Last month, we heard Miller was about to relaunch his startup, which attracted the likes of Twitter cofounder Evan Williams and Betaworks’ John Borthwick.
Miller wrote that Branch partnered with Obvious Corporation, which is run by Williams with another Twitter cofounder, Biz Stone, and former product director Jason Goldman. Branch has been working out of its headquarters in San Francisco, but the company will move to New York this summer — and Goldman will move with them.
Miller’s vision for open discussion originated while he was in high school. He wrote:
Our prose was distasteful and juvenile at times, nurturing the grassroots publication opened my eyes to the profound power inherent in the open exchange of information. Our tagline was “Discussion. Debate. Doctrine.,” making the project an early predecessor to Branch (formerly known as Roundtable).
