If you are a follower of the Windows Phone line of products, you surely know that photo-taking performance aboard the Lumia 900 has been lackluster. The Lumia 900, Nokia’s flagship phone for the US market, has been generally well received, but its camera has not.
However, the Tango update to the Windows Phone platform may fix that issue, according to a new report. Drawing the update and wiping its device. WPCentral moved a Lumia 900 to the new code, finding along the way that the camera has been greatly improved by the new software.
Issues stemming ISO settings and performance appear to have been corrected, allowing for pictures to be taken at lower ISO settings. Also, according to its testing, WPCentral found that total ‘image noise’ is down as well when the update is installed.
It’s interesting to see this update roll out so close to Windows Phone 8. While the fixes will certainly make current Lumia 900 owners happy, it’s hard to get too excited about the fixes. Windows Phone 8 is a refresh of the platform. All current Windows Phone handsets are soon to be left behind, from a software perspective. Therefore, while its nice to see a soon-to-be-out-of-date phone perform better when yet-unreleased is applied, looking ahead is easier.
