Twitter could be generating $350,000 in ad revenue per employee per year, if the report that Twitter expects to generate $350 million in ad sales this year is true.

That’s significant because previous numbers leaked from Twitter suggest that the company spends about $233,644 per employee in total operating costs to run its business. Twitter has about 1,000 employees (Oddly, it’s taken its employee page down.)

The difference between the two numbers—$116,356—suggests that Twitter could be profitable on an operating basis.

Annualized, that operating profit could be as much as $116 million this year. (Assuming the numbers are true, of course.)

The $350 million number is more than double Emarketer’s estimated 2011 revenue. On the old numbers, Twitter was a money-loser, back in early 2011.

The new numbers suggest Twitter can indeed stand on its own two feet.
