Mural.ly, which calls itself “an innovative online content mural platform,” is launching today with funding from Intel Capital, Alta Ventures and 500 Startups. The new service lets its creators save text, images and video on a zooming Prezi-style board, but is much more akin to a literal interpretation of Pinterest’s pinboard concept than a mural.
In fact, we’re not the only ones who see the connection, as the demo video below unsubtly shows pinboards conveniently placed in the background to help users draw the connection.
With that in mind, however, Mural.ly isn’t intended to be used like Pinterest, where inspirational content is shared and saved to boards. Instead, the service is being pitched as a “place to grow ideas together,” where you can map out content, collaborate real-time with others and then show off your ideas as a presentation (again, Prezi).
The tool itself can be used in a large variety of ways, just like a cork board can, and so the instructions leave much to the imagination. Some of the provided usage examples include: using it to plan your next game idea or to brainstorm a fashion designer’s upcoming summer collection.
Mural.ly is currently seeking more funding, to allow for larger-scale promotions and expansion. According to CEO and co-founder Mariano Suarez Battan, the startup’s goal is to “become the ‘Github of Visual Ideation’ and the clear leader in that space.” You can check it out via the link below:
