Twitter cofounder Ev Williams and his wife, Sara Morishige Williams, have been revealed as the buyers of a century-old Arts and Crafts-style house in Parnassus Heights, one of San Francisco’s more desirable neighborhoods.
SocketSite, a local real-estate site, reports that the property was purchased for $2.9 million in January 2011. The Williamses are seeking to tear down the historic house, originally built in 1911 by famed architect Louis Christian Mullgardt.
300 local residents have written to San Francisco’s Planning Department to oppose their plans, arguing that the loss of the house will change the character of the neighborhood.
It’s not the first time that the couple have been stymied in their real-estate ambitions. The New York Times reported in 2009 that the Williamses were building a new, modern home. But by the fall of that year, they’d abandoned that plan and bought another property instead.
