Zynga Hires Ex-Yahoo David Ko To Run Mobile Division
Zynga has shaken up its management after a disastrous quarter, and its chief mobile officer, David Ko, is a chief beneficiary.
Bloomberg reports that Ko and another executive, Steve Chiang, are now reporting directly to CEO Mark Pincus instead of to COO John Schappert.
A Zynga spokeswoman declined to comment.
In the company’s second-quarter earnings call, Pincus emphasized the company’s growth on mobile as its core Facebook titles, like FarmVille and CityVille, saw play dwindle.
And last month, at Zynga Unleashed, the company’s showcase for new games and strategies, Pincus emphasized the company’s strategy to unite gameplay across Web and mobile versions.
With their newly expanded roles, it seems like Ko and Chiang will have primary responsibility for making that unified strategy happen.
Ko championed Zynga’s acquisitions of Newtoy, the maker of Words With Friends, and OMGPOP, the maker of Draw Something. Six months ago, he got the title of chief mobile officer.
